Soo-Line Caboose #34 as it looked at the rail yard in Iowa.
#34 gets loaded onto a trailer for a short ride to it's final home at 1102 South Water St.
Caboose #34 coming down Water Street.
The wheels (called trucks) were lowered separately. They weigh 4 tons each so we were definitely watching our toes and fingers! Pictured are Dave Erickson in front, Dave's dad Verl on the right and friend and Burlington Northern Conductor Dan Potaracke in back.
Midway Crane service lifted the Caboose off the trailer and onto the trucks (wheels) waiting on the tracks.
A fuel oil tank and oil stove were located behind the conductor's chair. The interior was dirty, scratched and dented. Except for a few rotted areas in the floor boards, the caboose was structurally sound inside. |
